On September 15, 2021, a Naming Ceremony for MHO Asgard and MHO Apollo was conducted by CEO Mik Henriksen of MHO-Co A/S, in Esbjerg. The vessels were built by Afai Southern Shipyard.

The twin vessels, MHO Asgard and MHO Apollo, with LOA 35.3m, molded beam 11m and draft 1.53m, are first hybrid wind farm support vessels in the world to adopt VOLVO IPS propulsion with Danfoss Editron lithium battery and DC-Link Grid Hybrid Propulsion System. They are designed cooperatively by AFAI and Incat Crowther, and constructed by AFAI.

MHO Asgard and MHO Apollo departed from AFAI in June 2021. They broke through the constraints of the Covid-19 pandemic, overcame challenges of 6m waves and 40 knots wind, crossed the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, sailed on the South China Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Alboran Sea, the Cantabrian Sea, the Celtic Sea, passed through the Strait of Malacca, Gulf of Aden, Strait of Mander, Suez Canal, Strait of Gibraltar, English Channel, etc., and finally successfully arrived at Esbjerg, Denmark on the morning of September 6, 2021. From China to Denmark, the new-built vessels have gone through all kinds of difficulties, much more than we imagine, in a sailing tour of 70 days and more than 10,000nm, with and east-west longitude spanning 120o and a single voyage of up to 2,200nm. Their performance has been tested to the extreme and an ever great sailing feat of this kind of vessels has been accomplished. With the successful completion of this voyage, their outstanding performance, their stable and reliable quality have been fully approved. The shipowner – MHO-Co, highly appreciates the quality of the boats with such a satisfactory product made by AFAI.
